Meet the Gods
The ancient Egyptians believed in many gods and goddesses. Let's meet some of them and learn about their different roles.
AMUN
● Known as the king of the gods and protector of the royal family
● Later combined with the sun god, Re, to create the god Amun-Re
Anubis
● God of mummification, the afterlife, and death
● Guided souls through the underworld
Bastet
● Goddess of new life, childbirth, and cats
● Protected the home against evil spirits and disease
Horus
● God of the sky, war, and hunting
● A fair and just god who maintained order and balance
Osiris
● God of the afterlife and new life
● Responsible for judging the souls of the dead to decide if they would enter the afterlife
Re or Ra
● God of the sun, light, warmth, and growth
● Considered the first king of both gods and humans
