Bushidō is the code of conduct that samurai lived
by. Translated “The Way of the Warrior,” bushidō acted as a map to help guide the samurai in their decisions both on and off the battlefield. The code varied by domain and changed over time.
During the late 19th century, after the samurai ended, Nitobe Inazō wrote a book called Bushidō: The Soul of Japan, which discussed the seven or eight virtues of bushidō. This is the code that many people know today.
Together with your family or friends, create your own
code of conduct by answering the following questions:
Create a name for your code of conduct.
What are the virtues/codes of conduct you
and your group would like to live by?
Who will help keep you accountable for sticking with these virtues?
What will happen if someone in your group does not follow the code of conduct?
How do you think living by this code will help you over time?
