Secret Letters

During the French Revolution, the French king and queen were under careful watch. Marie Antoinette sent letters to other European courts, letting them know how they were or asking for help. To keep her messages secret, she wrote using a cipher.

One of the people she wrote to was Count Axel von Fersen of Sweden. The two were good friends, and some historians even suspect they were in love!
