CLAY INGREDIENTS

1. In a saucepan with adult supervision, mix the salt and water in the saucepan over low heat for 5 minutes.
2. Remove the saltwater from the heat and add in the cornstarch and cold water, stirring with a whisk until the mixture is smooth. Once smooth, return the mixture to low heat until the mixture becomes thick.
3. Once the mixture is a thick consistency, remove from heat and let the clay cool completely.
4. Now you are ready to make your medals!

MAKING YOUR MEDALS

Grab your clay and roll it out into a large, semi-thick pancake. Using a cup or a butter knife, cut out three circles for your medals. Be sure to make a hole at the top of your medal big enough to fit a string or ribbon through.

Next, create a symbol to put on each of your medals. It can be anything from your family crest to a cool design of your choice. Use items from around your home like pencils, an old toothbrush, or textured scissors to give your clay medals extra texture. Get a piece of paper to draw out three samples of what you want to draw on your medals.

Let the clay sit out to dry (or throw it in the oven for a few minutes if you are in a hurry) and allow the clay to harden. At this stage, you can paint your medal a cool color or stick with the classic gold, silver, and bronze color to add the finishing touches to your masterpiece.
