BRINGING
Now that you’ve learned about some of the traditional and not-so-traditional events in current and past Olympics, it’s time for you to create your own Olympic Games!
First, you will need to decide how many events will take place at your Olympic Games. You can make up your own events or come up with modified versions of actual Olympic events.
Grab a pen and a piece of paper
1) List 5 of your Olympic Events.
2) Are you creating any of your own events? What will you call the event? How will the winner be chosen? Write out the specifics of your event on your paper.
3) What are the rules of each event? Are there certain things a participant could do that would disqualify them? Write out a few rules for each event to prevent any “funny business” from taking place during your Olympics.
4) Next, decide on an opening and closing ceremony. How will you celebrate the beginning and end of the games? Will a candle be lit? Will a song or a poem be read aloud? Will there be a parade? Describe how the opening and closing ceremonies will proceed:
5) Now, you must pick a day, time, and place where your Olympic Games will be held and write it down.
6) Finally, what prizes will the gold, silver, and bronze medal winners receive? Will they just receive medals, or perhaps a coupon letting them out of dishwashing duty for a week? Decide on what each winner will receive and write it on your paper.
Now that your rules and regulations are ready to go, you are ready to move on and create your Olympic mascot and poster before your games begin. Check out the next activity to complete the planning phase of your very own Olympic Games.
