Invisible Ink

STEP 1

Take a leaf off the artichoke and, with the help of an adult, cut a few small pieces off the leaf using a knife or a sharp pair of scissors.

STEP 2

Place the pieces of artichoke in a small bowl and add a very small amount of water.

STEP 3

With the spoon, crush the pieces of artichoke as hard as you can. This will release the artichoke juice into the water. Make sure the artichoke is crushed as much as possible before moving to the next step.

STEP 4

Make your unfolded paperclip and, using one of the sharp ends, write
a message on the piece of paper using the water and artichoke mixture. Make sure to dip the paperclip in the water mixture often.

STEP 5

Once the “ink” dries, take your lit candle and hold the piece of paper a few inches above the flame. The flame should not touch the paper, but should be close enough that the paper feels the heat. Hold the paper over the flame until the hidden message begins to appear on the paper.
