Beginning with Julius Caesar, coins made during the Roman Empire had the faces of the emperor engraved on them along with their titles. Some of the titles on the coin included “The son of...” or “The greatest ruler.” The goal was to get as many titles on each coin to show how powerful each emperor’s rule was.
