  •  Also known as the Pacific Campaign, the Pacific Theater was the part of the war that largely happened in the Pacific Ocean, East Asia, and Southeast Asia.

  • The Allied powers were fighting against Japanese expansion across the Pacific.

  • Japan’s attack on Pearl Harbor was a leading factor in the United States joining WWII.

  • Roughly 6,000 American civilians died in the Pacific, most of whom were members of the Merchant Marine.

  • The United States, Japan, Great Britain, Australia, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Canada, China, France, and the Soviet Union were all involved in the Pacific Theater.

  • Many of the Pacific Islands were occupied, destroyed, and/or used by the Axis or Allied powers.

  • Power shifted toward American victory over Japan during the Battle of Midway, one of the most important battles in the Pacific.

  • The Japanese Army sent school children as young as 14 to war during the Battle of Okinawa.
