Young Historians

Who else loves a good pirate story? I know I sure do! This issue of Honest History is all about a female pirate named Cheng I Sao who is considered by some historians to be one of the most successful pirates in history.

Cheng I Sao is an unlikely historical figure. She was from a part of the world that we don’t often associate with piracy, and she was a woman during a time when being a female pirate was unheard of. Like many moments in history, things aren’t always what they seem and sometimes the underdog becomes the hero.

It is important to learn about figures like Cheng I Sao so that we can better understand how one person can make a difference in the world. By breaking the rules of society, Cheng I Sao made a name for herself in history.

Through studying incredible people in history, we hope that you will feel encouraged to chase your wildest dreams and do the impossible. I’m sure that none of the people in history ever thought that they would be a famous historical figure. Who knows, maybe one day we will be teaching other kids about your life and incredible acts that changed history!
