Extremely hot days and cold nights, the Australian desert and shrubland provide a rich ecosystem for animals and plants.

Found in large patches throughout Australia, these regions experience a high level of rainfall and consistent temperatures.

The mediterranean region has hot and dry summers, with cool and moist winters. The temperate area is found throughout southeast Australia and, due to its mild climate, has mostly been converted for farming
and sheep rearing.

Located in the high altitudes of the Australian Alps, the montane area consists of snow grass and other alpine vegetation. Located in sub-Antarctic regions, the tundra is a treeless polar desert found on the Australian islands of Heard and McDonald.
