Hi, Young Historians,
It feels like it’s been a minute since we had an issue focused on America, so get ready for the Gilded Age! This special time in U.S. history brought about a lot of change. Significant progress was made, and many Americans flourished. Unfortunately, that was not the case for everyone.
During the Gilded Age, the poor were really poor, but the wealthy lived in a way that is hard to believe possible. Children your age were forced to go to work, and many Americans labored 12 or more hours a day but still didn’t make enough to feed their families.
Some people think we are living in an era that mirrors the Gilded Age. After reading these stories and doing your research, let us know what you think. Do you see any similarities between the Gilded Age and today?
As always, I encourage you to use this issue as a jumping-off point to research these topics.
Stay curious, my friends, and happy reading!
Cheers,
Brooke Knight
