A Letter for Young Historians

Greetings, Young Historians,

As you may have guessed from the cover, this issue of Honest History focuses on Patagonia and the Amazon. No, not Amazon the store, but the majestic rainforest.

Before we began our research, I knew a little about the Amazon or Patagonia. I’d watched plenty of nature documentaries with my kids and was aware of how important rainforests and national parks are to plant and animal life. But the more I studied, the more I learned about how essential national parks and rainforests, particularly the Amazon Rainforest, are to humans.

Millions of people call the Amazon Basin their home and rely on it for food, water, shelter, and their basic needs. They are people like you and me who use the resources of the Amazon for their daily lives. Many of us live in cities or large towns where all our needs can be met with a quick trip to the local grocery store. But in the Amazon, nature plays a vital role in everyday life.

In this issue, I hope you will learn how people in the Amazon region use the rainforest and how important it is, even for us, who live thousands of miles away. I also hope you learn how important the preservation of Patagonia is in making sure everyone has access to nature and the beauty it holds. So buckle up, and let’s get ready to dive into the past, on another exciting adventure!

Happy Reading,
